4月10日 Ancestry.comI started building our family tree on Ancestry.com and have been completel sucked in. It's addictive to just keep adding names and see where things go. With a subsciption the site will take a name you put in and search historical records, it's pretty cool. Found the actual passenger list from 1928 when my Grandma's family came over from Norway. Even has a picture of the ship itself. Link to the "Anderson Family Tree":
3月8日 Lindsey Ski JoringAnother ski joring video...this time of Lindsey. As before, login is lefsa, password is eater. http://www.isuckatsoccer.com/Video/SkiJoring-Lindsey.wmv 3月5日 Sioux hockeyTHe Sioux had their last regular season home games this weekend, so we went both Friday and Saturday night. It was a pretty sweet weekend for the Sioux, we swept Michigan Tech and outscored them 10-0 between the two games. Hopefully an indication of things looking up as we go into the playoffs. Got some pictures on Friday night that I'll upload. I was taking a video at one point when MT got called for a penalty and we got a penalty shot. So I got it on video but our dude missed...suck.
Funny story though from Friday night as we were walking to the game. One of my big pet-peeves of the Ralph is that there is no general onsite parking, so you have to park a long way away and either walk or ride the buses they run. So we parked by the med building, and were walking over to the arena. As we were walking, this guy was walking from a different direction and as we came close to him, he asked us how to get to the student entrance of the arena. He looked about college-student age so no big deal, so we told him that's where we were heading and he could follow us. We walked a little further and he was walking a bit behind us and when we got within site of the Ralph, he said from behind us, "Wow, you guys are spoiled." Meaning the the Ralph is a pretty sweet building. We said, yeah, it's a pretty nice place, wait until you see the inside. Lindsey then asked him where he was from. He replied, "Where do you tihnk?" In a somewhat smug voice. Since we were playing Michigan Tech, Lindsey then replied with the obvious, "Michigan?" Which he replied, "No." Again in a smug voice. We didn't know what to say then, so we walked for a minute in silence, not quite knowing what to say. Finally we asked him, well, where are you from? "Wisconsin" was his reply. Lindsey and I just kind of looked at each other like, were we supposed to know that? After that, we walked into the building and didn't see him again. So I guess the moral of the story is, if you don't know any better, you can just assume someone is from Wisconsin. 2月26日 Skijoring videoHere it is...a little video of skijoring with the labs. This time went much better, with fewer falls and fewer trees wrapped-around! Need to get harnesses for the dogs though, I think they would work better than using their collars. We also got out the alpine skis and did a little down-hilling on the dike since we have a ton of snow. But didn't quite work out as well as I had hoped. In all its monstrosity, the dike just didn't have enough elevation to get much speed. There are a few pics of that in my photo album.

2月18日 Ski joringJust started ski joring with the dogs this week, only been out a couple times but it's been pretty fun. For those who don't know, ski joring is cross-country skiing but with dogs (or horses) pulling you at the same time. Here is a ski joring website. Anyway, my equipment is all home made at this point. Just took a rope and attached a couple bungee cords to it. Ideally, you should have a harness for yourself and for the dogs, but since I don't, I just used a belt for myself and attached the rope with a carabiner. Did have one harness for the dogs, which came from a "dog backpack". But that didn't seem to work too well because it didn't fit right. So just attached the rope to a double-leash and then to their collars. The first time I went out I tried each dog singlely but today discovered that when they both pull it works better.
So I started out on a groomed ski trail today. THey got going pretty well and it was working good. THen, they decided to go off trail and start pulling me through a couple feet of power and over some bumps. Ya know, after you fall, it can be hard to get back up with skis on. Well, try doing it with to dogs still trying to pull you along. Wish I would have had that on video, but I think Lindsey got a pretty good laugh! So after I untangled myself and the dogs quit pulling on me, got back up and was set to try it again. So they started pulling me down a little hill and once again I became tangled and off balance and down I went. Another good laugh for Lindsey. But by that time, we were down on the river so it was pretty wide open. Got back up and the dogs must have caught a whiff of some small animal because they started sprinting down the frozen river. But since there was nothing for me to hit, it was as blast! We cruised up and down the river for awhile without incident so maybe I'll just start there from now on. We'll have to try to get some pictures next time...and maybe a video of a good crash.
